Meet the photographer
Jessica Deen
I’m Jessica Deen, a Northern California sports photographer.
I’m drawn to sports because nothing happens on command. The action is fast, the emotions are real, and you usually get one chance to catch the moment. Whether I’m alongside a field, a wrestling mat, a court, or a pool, I’m looking for more than the obvious highlight.
Sometimes it’s peak action. Sometimes it’s the focus before competition, the reaction immediately afterward, teammates celebrating together, or an expression that disappears a second later. Those moments are part of the story too.
I photograph athletes across a wide range of sports, but I’m especially passionate about increasing the visibility of girls’ and women’s sports. Coverage isn’t always distributed evenly. The football field and boys’ basketball court rarely struggle to attract cameras, while athletes competing just as hard in other sports can receive far less attention.
I want to help change that. Girls deserve to see themselves photographed as serious athletes, with the same quality, attention, and storytelling routinely given to boys’ sports.
If you’re an athlete, parent, coach, or just someone looking through a gallery after the game, I hope you find something that makes you stop scrolling for a second and think, “That’s the one.”
